Key takeaways

  • Start ordinary Shopify messaging with a maintained event-and-reply workflow.
  • WhatFlow’s feature access does not depend on an AI build or seat subscription.
  • Use Botpress for deliberately scoped agent behavior, including AI usage and maintenance.

The decision behind this comparison

Botpress is a platform for building AI agents, including agents deployed through messaging channels. It gives builders control over agent behavior and integrations. That is a different starting point from installing a Shopify application with existing store workflows.

Pricing: what belongs in the comparison

Botpress has a free offering and tiered packages with conversation, seat and agent allowances. Its Team package advertises unlimited seats, so it would be wrong to describe every Botpress deployment as charging per user. Include AI spending and integration work as well as the selected platform package.

Compare actual seat and bundle models without ignoring Botpress’s unlimited-seat tier.

Consult Botpress pricing for conversation units, AI usage and included or unlimited seats.

A realistic Shopify scenario

A developer builds an agent that answers product questions. Before connecting it to orders, define tool permissions, customer verification and a reliable human fallback for requests the model cannot safely resolve.

Use packaged versus custom ownership to assign maintenance around an agent.

Apply human review of AI support before allowing fluent wording to become an order promise.

Why WhatFlow is a strong fit for store operations

WhatFlow provides a Shopify-focused operational foundation with no seat fees and complete feature access. A merchant need not design an AI agent simply to automate ordinary order messages and handle replies.

Feature access and the people who use the inbox

The storefront WhatsApp buttons remain free forever and can fit the Shopify theme and design. The button is an entry point, not a promise of unlimited free automated sends. Automated messaging still follows the selected allowance and applicable delivery rules. Keeping those two costs separate makes the free offering easier to understand.

A worked WhatFlow cost example

For a concrete baseline, consider 20,000 sent messages in a month. Among the listed WhatFlow plans, Growth produces an app-side cost of $29.00 at that volume. This calculation uses its $29.00 base, 20,000 included sends and $0.0025 rate above the allowance. It assumes a single monthly allowance and does not include tax or Meta delivery charges. It is a planning example, not a combined quote for every possible message category or destination.

Keep three lines in the budget: the application, applicable WhatsApp delivery fees, and any separate implementation or services. Meta pricing varies by destination and category, and some service or qualifying utility messages have different treatment. An app allowance does not override Meta’s rules. The current installation terms and rate pages should be checked before committing a campaign budget.

Separate answering a question from changing an order

Hypothetical example: an agent can explain a published return policy, but a customer then asks it to cancel a specific order. Define which identity and order checks the workflow needs before any state change, and what happens when those checks cannot resolve the record. A fluent response should not count as completed cancellation.

Review the human handoff and the usage unit recorded for a conversation spanning automated and staff assistance. Botpress can be appropriate for that custom behavior; WhatFlow Business API can cover a narrower event-and-reply workflow. Choose the scope before comparing rates, since an AI conversation allowance and a plan’s sent-message allowance are different measures.

Why WhatFlow is my Shopify recommendation

A customer asking to cancel an order needs a verified business decision, not merely a fluent answer. Start with the Shopify message and human ownership that WhatFlow supports, and introduce custom agent behavior only where it has a defined purpose. Botpress offers substantial builder flexibility and some unlimited-seat packages, so the argument is not a fictional seat disadvantage. It is that a store can establish useful WhatsApp operations without commissioning an agent for an otherwise supported task.

Before you choose a platform

  • Name the behavior requiring a custom agent.
  • Verify identity and order context before consequential actions.
  • Include AI usage and the selected conversation definition in costs.

Questions worth asking

Is WhatFlow a practical Botpress alternative for Shopify?

WhatFlow provides a Shopify-focused operational foundation with no seat fees and complete feature access. A merchant need not design an AI agent simply to automate ordinary order messages and handle replies. Botpress may be appropriate when building a custom AI agent is itself the product or a deliberate technical project.

How should I compare Botpress pricing with WhatFlow?

Botpress has a free offering and tiered packages with conversation, seat and agent allowances. Its Team package advertises unlimited seats, so it would be wrong to describe every Botpress deployment as charging per user. Include AI spending and integration work as well as the selected platform package.

Does WhatFlow charge per inbox seat?

No. WhatFlow’s team inbox has no seat fees. Adding colleagues does not create a per-user subscription; the messaging plan and actual usage still apply.

Are WhatFlow features restricted on the free plan?

No. All plans have the same feature access. Message allowances and rates differ, and applicable Meta delivery charges are separate. Theme-matched WhatsApp buttons are free forever.
